2006 Wedding Anniversary

If you are keeping count, that makes five years! Yes, we have been married five years. Wow! This year we decided to head over to Mythos Greek Taverna for supper. When we arrived Mythos was not open. They were supposed to be, according to their posted store hours. Jessie quickly spotted Brookwood Grill and decided it might have been easier to find food that she could eat there anyways.

We walked right in and submitted our name to the hostess. I thought it was interesting that she asked for my cell phone number. She told us it was so she could call us when a table was available. Although I was hesitant to give out my cell phone number I thought it was a pretty neat idea for people having to wait for a table and I don’t like having my name blasted over an intercom. Of course, I am sure it was cheaper for them because they didn’t have to buy those buzzing discs. I gave them the number and Jessie and I decided to go for a short walk.

Not long after we started on our walk I got a call. It was an automated message basically saying that our table was ready. It said that if we were ready to be seated, press 1; if we needed fifteen more minutes, press 2; and if we wanted to cancel, press 3. I was very impressed with this. For those that wanted to run to the convenience store while they waited for a table, option 2 was perfect. For those that wanted to submit their name, but didn’t like the idea of a long wait, they could use option 3 if they found somewhere close that could seat them quicker.

We were seated in a loud area near the bar (they have live entertainment most nights). I could quickly tell that this was not going to work so we notified the hostess and they accomodated us with a quieter and more subdued booth. We had a very nice time of eating and conversation. Here’s a breakdown of what we ate:

Jessie

  • Cherry Coca-Cola ($2)
  • French onion soup ($6)
  • Sauteed mushrooms, grilled vegetables, garlic mashed potatoes ($12)
  • Creme brulee ($7)

Joe

  • Potato chip encrusted chicken sandwich (honey mustard horseradish, lettuce, tomato) & french fries ($9)
  • Peach cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream ($7)

Jessie shared quite a bit of her food with me. The french onion soup was very good. It said it had three cheeses. Jessie thinks it might have been Swiss, mozzarella, & provolone. The peach cobbler was obscene (a phrase Jessie’s aunt Sheri likes to use when she means that the food was good)! We chatted with our waiter a little at the end. He took our picture and then told us all about how he was a self-taught photographer. I am interested in photography so I asked a few questions. He said he took a lot of pictures of trains, which seemed interesing to me. I managed to find some of his photos online after he mentioned a site to which contributed pictures.

We ended our night with a nice walk with the dogs. With our baby on the way, I’m sure our next five years will prove to be quite an adventure. If the Good Lord wills it, I am very excited to take that journey. Oh yeah, I found out that Mythos is moving and changing to a diner.
